Sunday Carvery - Unfriendly and unhelpful, not baby friendly My daughter booked up for Sunday lunch but didn’t not know that she had to pre book a high chair for her ten month old. Although there was several high chairs stand in the corner not being used ( and were not used the entire time she was there, she was told she couldn’t have the use of a high chair if she haven’t pre booked one. The staff were unfriendly and rude.

Great place to have Sunday Lunch. Great food and lovely staff. Limited space to park but can park on the main road. Highly recommend it.

Food is lovely, service was ok. The sign above the carvery that mentions the waste though, kind of a hypocritical thing to have when they don't offer take away boxes though. We only took what we could eat, I asked for a take away box because my child was ill and was told that "they don't do that" well, if you want less waste... Start doing that...

Didn't stay, Food was out of this world, service Swift and friendly, and mid range price wise, but the portions were massive, couldn't finish it, portions so generous, will definitely return

We recently stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting family and had a great experience. Rooms were clean and very comfortable, food was generous and delicious (especially the home-made steak pie!) and all the staff were superb! On our last night we had 8 inches of snow and when we tried to leave in the morning my car wasn't having any of it. Without being asked Ali, Annette and George came out and helped push us out of the car park and onto the street. They really went above and beyond, also saying they'd keep the room for us if the roads were too treacherous. Thank you 🙏 Lovely people, lovely food and would definitely stay again.

I recently visited, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The food was mediocre at best, and the service left a lot to be desired. My burger arrived plain without asking, and even after sending it back, it came back missing some ingredients. Another meal from our table was served on a chopping board, with all the components separated into small dishes, but no actual plate to eat from – a strange and impractical presentation choice. The service was inattentive and slow, with staff seeming disinterested in resolving issues or improving the experience. It’s a shame because this pub used to be a great spot, but it has clearly gone downhill. Sadly, I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Had the Christmas Fayre dinner. 3 of us had Turkey and 1had beef. Food was nicely cooked and presented, staff were friendly and courteous, checking back to see if everything was ok. Dessert was a little small and should have had option for ice cream instead of cream but on the whole it was a very pleasant evening and the food was good.

I haven’t stopped at the hotel but have eaten here many times. Never had a bad meal and service is always top notch. Have just booked for a table of 6 for our annual xmas family dinner out. Can’t wait. Keep up the good work guys.

Restaurant was very busy. Staff worked hard to fit people in. Food was decent quality. Lamb costs extra because of supply prices. Toilets clean and smart. It's approximately the same standard as the nearby Duke of York.

Pretty much of a muchness. I have done a lot of travelling in my life and I would say it is adequate, the food is in my opinion exceptional although the local services and hotel don't cater for the traveller who has forgotten for an example a shaving razor early in the morning, and no time to obtain one while attending a family funeral. Hopefully it will improve over a period as they improve with experience.

Went for a family meal this afternoon. Nice setting and nice atmosphere. Quite a few in and a varied menu available. You can also book and spend the night if you fancy staying over to explore the local area.

Excellent. Cosy clean room with nice facilities. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Food superb, Excellent vegetarian options for both evening meal and breakfast. Thoroughly recommend.

We booked to stay here overnight on our way home from Holiday and the pub was really nice and decorated to a good standard. The staff was lovely and friendly The room was smaller than I thought but it was really cosy and once you put the heater on it soon warms up The rooms are separate from the pub , They are like a row of chalet style rooms... There is a desk TV towels kettle with a god choice of hot drinks The bed was very comfy and pillows was lovely too. Being a larger lady I found the shower a tight squeeze and not much flow with the shower but it wouldn't put me off staying again The food was amazing All the reviews said it was excellent and it was I had STARTERS..Garlic Mushrooms with Garlic Bread MAINS..Hunters Chicken with Chunky Chips and Salad (A choice of chips or fries) DESSERT..Sticky Toffee Pudding With Custard My Husband Had.. MAINS..10oz Steak with Fries Onion Rings and Salad (A choice of chips or fries) DESSERT..Double Chocolate Brownie With Ice Cream Food was piping hot and excellent

My wife booked the Fir Tree as a base for a birthday treat for me. The room was wonderfully comfortable and well presented. We dined in the Fir Tree Restaurant and enjoyed an exceptional dinner. The portions are generous and cooked beautifully, the home made pie was delicious. The food is cooked and presented with love and care adding to the whole dining experience. The cheesecake is to die for and was most definitely one of the best I have tried in a long time. During our stay over a long weekend we travelled around the coast and more locally returning each evening to enjoy the delicious menu on offer. With very friendly and welcoming staff the Fir Tree is a brilliant place to base yourself for exploring or to call in for a memorable evening meal.

Very convenient for anyone travelling the A68, just off the main road. Motel like and with great breakfasts. Maybe a bit pricey for what it is but I liked it.

We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. What a lovely place. There are ample parking spaces and a spacious outdoor section. Inside is a beautiful classic country pub decor, lovely and clean with plenty of seats. We were shocked at how quiet it was for a Saturday, only two tables were occupied. The barmaid was super friendly and sat us straight away and looked after us well throughout our visit. The menu is traditional pub fare, very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. Our food came out quite quickly and we thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. Would loved to have had dessert too but our main courses left us full. Will have one next time as we will most definitely be back. Toilets nice and clean. Good choice of drinks. If we had to think of anything less than positive, it was slightly lacking in atmosphere. If there was music on, it was too low to hear and it went very quiet when the other two tables left. Overall though, we kinda liked this, but not everyone would.

Stayed for 2 nights. The room was quite small but beautifully prepared - immaculately clean. The food also was excellent with plenty of choice. Prices are very reasonable. But the star item was the staff . Everyone we met was really pleasant and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. Will be going again

Fir tree country hotel, a lovely little place, it's all ground level so good for anyone for easy access. The staff are all lovely and the food is top notch. The room we had was a decent enough size and the bathroom although small it has everything you need, I wanted to take the shower home with me. I definitely recommend staying here if you are near by or even just coming for dinner.
